The Body of Gold Podcast: Through My Husband’s Eyes

The Body of Gold Podcast: Through My Husband’s Eyes

This episode entitled Through My Husband’s Eye’s features my husband Tony this week as our guest. Tony and I met in 2013 at American University while in college at a basketball game. I chose my husband as a guest for this episode because he has seen me through all my highs and lows. In life, your spouse can be your biggest critic or cheerleader when trying to accomplish your body goals.

I asked Tony as a man how did he handle seeing my body and mental state transform over our five years together. Tony explained how he let me find my journey on my own while providing support. He would offer help if needed and constant encouragement regardless of my current state. Tony speaks on how supplying reassurance for me was an important part of keeping our relationship healthy. Tony often helps me indirectly by offering to try new diet plans, new workouts, or even new routines.

I have also seen Tony’s body change as well so I make it a point to stay involved but never hurt his feelings and he does the same. I told a story about our engagement photoshoot and how some of the pictures weren’t satisfying to me because of the angles in which they were shot. I went on to make a comment about myself and how I wasn’t happy with my stomach in the photos causing Tony to respond by telling me I needed to lose my stomach. Filled with anger, sadness, and confusion I was devasted by his response but I came to the realization that men are physical and visual creatures and are engaged by the physique. He said that after he said that he knew it was wrong and realized then, in fact, is a way to communicate things to your partner that may be a sensitive subject without hurting your partner.

Tony goes on to say that when you love someone you learn to accept that women’s bodies fluctuate and the things you should be attracted to are internal. While there is nothing wrong with saying “hey, let’s get in the gym” there has to be an equal understanding that over time everyone’s body will change even your partner. Listen to this episode of the Body of Gold Podcast to hear Tony and I full conversation about our relationship style and how it pertains to body positive, communication and unconditional love.
